Just conducted a fascinating survey with 1,983 French startups to explore if they ever experienced skill gaps in their teams and what specific skills they need. The intention was to understand their inclination towards hiring freelancers to fill these gaps.
To create a comfortable experience for respondents, we used Typeform for survey collection and integrated it with Notion, a widely loved tool among startups.
The results are in! An impressive 79% of respondents reported feeling skill gaps in their teams. Here's a breakdown of the top skills they're missing, expressed as a percentage of total respondents who felt skill gaps:
1.
Étude de marché (Market Research): 12.66%
2.
Advertising: 10.13%
3.
Communication: 10.13%
4.
Branding: 7.59%
5.
Réseaux sociaux (Social Media): 6.33%
We also applied NLP to analyze short text answers describing why startups would consider hiring freelancers or why they might not. The most common reason, it turns out, was budget constraints. Some respondents also mentioned that, despite facing skill gaps, they preferred to handle the tasks themselves.
This survey offers valuable insights into the challenges faced by French startups and their openness to hiring freelancers. If you're a freelancer with the skills listed above, now might be a great time to connect with these startups and help them bridge their skill gaps!
